Jack and the Beanstalk
Picture book · ages 4–8 · 620L · 1986
Faulkner's illustrations are the draw here—vivid, detailed watercolors that make the giant genuinely imposing without being nightmarish, and the beanstalk spectacular enough to hold a read-aloud room.
Gaijin: American Prisoner of War

A respectful, illustrated account of a real POW's childhood resilience; Faulkner's watercolors humanize without sanitizing, making it an honest entry point to WWII Pacific history for kids ready for real stakes.
