Jimi Sounds Like a Rainbow: A Story of the Young Jimi Hendrix
Picture book · ages 4–8 · 620L · 2010
Steptoe's collage art makes the story visual and kinetic; the narrative honors Jimi's childhood struggle and joy without sanitizing or overselling, and it lands for kids who feel sideways from the world.
Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat
Picture book · ages 4–8 · 620L · 2016
A stunningly illustrated biography that shows rather than tells why art matters—Steptoe's mixed-media collage mirrors Basquiat's own restless energy and gives kids a visceral sense of artistic obsession.
